This book unveils a potent new approach to one of the oldest debates in political economy--that over whether class conflict or group competition is more prevalent in politics. It goes further than any study to date by outlining the conditions under which one type of political conflict is more likely than the other. Michael J. Hiscox is the Clarence Dillon Professor of International Affairs in the Department of Government (in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences) at Harvard University. He is also a faculty associate at the Institute for Quantitative Social Science and at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, and co-leader of the Harvard-MIT Private Governance Research Group.
