Energy can be transferred by either conduction (molecular interaction) or radiation (through electromagnetic waves, or light), and either one can be aided by flow (convection). This book describes the basic physics of radiative heat transfer: how opaque surfaces emit, reflect and absorb electromagnetic waves, how radiative energy is exchanged or light is distributed in enclosures with many surfaces, how gases and particulates emit, absorb and scatter radiation, and how to evaluate the (often dominant) radiative heat exchange in important industrial applications, such as rocket nozzles, furnaces and other combustion problems. The most complete book in the field, Radiative Heat Transfer, 2e, includes treatment of advanced topics, such as radiative transfer equation solution methods, state-of-the-art description of radiation properties, and spectral models. Modest also includes several topics not found in any other book in the field, such as the treatment of collimated irradiation (e.g., lasers), transient radiation effects, experimental methods, and inverse analysis. It includes an extensive solution manual for adopting instructors. It is the most complete text in the field of radiative heat transfer. It features many worked examples and end-of-chapter problems. It contains large number of computer codes (in Fortran and C++), ranging from basic problem solving aids to sophisticated research tools. It covers experimental methods.
