Excerpt from Astronomical Photography for Amateurs The reader who is already an expert photographer but not yet an amateur astronomer, will find a new and vast field on which to try his skill. To the amateur astronomer I would suggest that in solving the many outstanding problems, the photographic plate is likely to play an increasingly important part. Bearing in mind that this handbook is written for beginners, I have confined myself entirely to practical instructions which should enable the amateur to make the best use of the apparatus at his disposal. I shall' assume, however, that the reader is already familiar with the ordinary photographic processes. No reference has been made to the use of the prismatic camera or grating spectrograph, as these are beyond the limits of an elementary treatise.
